Forgot to Pick Up the Dry Cleaning Again

So here's the thing. I've been forgetting my dry cleaning every week for like, months now. It's kind of a running joke with me and my wife, but she thinks it's funny until she starts asking about my shirts getting cleaned again this month because I didn't pick them up last time. I always forget to go at the same time as picking up groceries or anything else that might remind me. So one day, after another missed pickup, she was starting to get annoyed. She asked if I could do it this weekend and I said yeah sure no problem. Thing is, I hate going there because they're super inconvenient with hours and I really dislike the manager. So when she started complaining again about my shirts looking worse because they never got cleaned, I just told her that the dry cleaners were closed for renovations for like two weeks or something, which wasn't true at all. I knew it was a lie, but hey, I've been dealing with this for months and thought maybe if she knew there was no place to go, she'd stop bothering me. She's pretty smart though, and caught on after two days of not being able to get through to the dry cleaners that I made up that whole story. She laughed at first but then got mad and told me off for lying about it. Now every time we have to think about my clothes, she reminds me of how I fibbed. I don't know why I couldn't just be honest with her and do the thing instead of coming up with this dumb excuse. But here I am, feeling a little guilty but also kind of proud that I found such an elaborate lie to get out of it for a while.
