The Great Quiz Cheating Incident of 2023

So yeah, I was taking my Political Science quiz today. My professor is known for his tricky questions and the fact that he's always in the room watching us like a hawk. I know, it’s kind of intimidating. Anyway, so there we were, just me, 20 minutes left on the clock, and everyone else around me hunched over their papers. Suddenly, out of nowhere, my phone starts buzzing with a notification from my group chat. It was a meme that made no sense at all given the context. I glanced back to the professor’s desk just in time to see him take his eyes off us for a moment to look something up on his computer screen. I quickly checked out the message and then slid my phone under my notes, pretending it wasn't there. Then, about five minutes later, I received another notification. This one was from a classmate named Sam who had sent me a quiz question answer he found online just seconds before sending it to others in our study group chat. Now, I know cheating is wrong and all that jazz, but when you’re under pressure, temptation can be hard to resist. Anyway, seeing the message made my palms sweaty. I was tempted to glance at Sam’s message for a few moments before deciding against it. But then I saw him looking back at me with a nod like he knew what was going through my mind and winked. So I took one more quick peek at his answer, but I swear it was just out of curiosity. As soon as the professor looked over again, I acted normal, coughing into my hand to cover up any noises from my phone under the paper. After a few more minutes, the quiz ended and everyone packed up their stuff. I didn't hear anything more about Sam's message after that. Now here’s the kicker: as we were all leaving, our professor mentioned in passing how he had been grading quizzes and noticed some suspiciously similar answers among several students. He suggested maybe they should talk it over with him if they hadn’t already done so. I haven't heard back from Sam yet about what happened or whether he turned us both in or not. I guess right now, I’m just sitting here wondering if I am the asshole for even looking at that one answer.
