The Old Folks' Home Dance Off

So yesterday, I went to visit my dad at his retirement home. They had this weird dance-off thing going on in the cafeteria, think old people shuffling around with canes and walkers trying to copy moves from YouTube tutorials. It was pretty funny, actually. Everyone seemed happier than usual. But then I saw this woman who looked familiar; turns out she’s my mom’s childhood friend. She gave me a strange look when we passed by each other on the dance floor. I couldn’t help but feel embarrassed for her and a bit guilty about being there, I mean, who dances in their golden years? After leaving, I felt oddly sad thinking about how time just seems to take everyone down different paths and you never know what they’re going through. It reminded me of all those times when my dad used to complain about life back when he was younger. Now he’s just happy to shuffle around with his friends, dancing away the days. Maybe it's not so bad after all.
