I Broke My Own Rule About Tipping
Anonymous Scandalous Prowler #887 · General
Every morning, I make a pact with myself to tip well at my coffee shop. You know, that feeling of seeing someone struggle, and you're like, 'Yes! A chance for me to be the hero.' But then something happens, like a rush of orders right as I'm about to clock out, or maybe just a particularly grumpy customer who ruins my mood. Today was one of those days. I had a long queue of people waiting for their morning caffeine fix, and by the time the last person left, my hand was shaking from stress. And then it happened, a couple at the counter handed me an extra twenty dollars with their order. My first thought was to thank them profusely, but then there was this tiny voice that said, 'You're tired, you deserve to catch a break.' So instead of adding it to the tip jar like I should have, I pocketed it. It's only $20, right? But now, every time I look at my wallet, guilt eats away at me.
