I'm Afraid of My New Painting Hobby

So I started painting recently and it's kind of terrifying. I mean, everyone keeps telling me to just let my creativity flow, but what if my paintings are terrible? I've painted this one landscape thing for three days straight now, and every time I step back to look at it, I think maybe it should be the other way around. Or perhaps blue is just wrong for that tree branch. And don't get me started on how I accidentally splattered paint all over my mom's favorite white curtains while trying a new technique. Is everyone secretly thinking I'm an idiot with a brush? Should I just give up and stick to coloring books where there are lines?
