That Time I Fudged the Schedules

Okay, so it might sound petty or dishonest to others, but here’s my confession. As a stay-at-home parent, juggling schedules can feel like a never-ending game of Tetris. Recently, our babysitter cancelled at the last minute due to an emergency, and I was left scrambling with no childcare options for my three-year-old and newborn. Instead of admitting defeat or frantically reaching out to family members who were already busy, I fabricated a schedule that made it look like I had everything under control, work meetings, phone calls, you name it. I even texted the sitter back to confirm they could call me if needed, despite knowing deep down there was no way this was going to happen. Looking back, it felt ridiculous and dishonest, but at the time, it also felt like a brilliant solution. Of course, the lie was discovered when my husband asked why I hadn't left for work yet. He didn’t call me out on it though; he just laughed and said that maybe next time we should plan ahead better. I’m not proud of fibbing about something so trivial, but if this situation ever comes up again? Yeah, I’d probably do it all over again.
