I Ate The Last Cookie

So yesterday, I was at home and my roommate had brought back this amazing box of cookies from the bakery. They were these soft, chewy chocolate chip ones that everyone kept raving about. We'd had a few earlier in the day, but there were still a couple left by bedtime. I stayed up late studying for an exam and suddenly remembered those last two cookies. I figured my roommate was out with friends anyway, so they wouldn't mind if I just... snuck one more bite. It's not like it's stealing if I know the box is there to be shared. And besides, it was just one cookie. But when morning came and we both woke up hungry for breakfast, there were none left! Zero cookies. Nada. How could this have happened? I mean, really, who eats an entire box of bakery cookies in one night? So now I'm stuck with this lingering guilt that maybe my roommate will ask if I ate the last cookie... but it was just ONE more little bite late at night! Not a big deal, right? Now every time she asks about them, all I can think is: me, me, ME. It's probably the worst thing to feel guilty about ever, but here I am.
