I Broke My Lab Partner's Concentration and She Never Forgets It

So, this semester I'm in a research lab for my grad studies. We work in pairs, and my partner is pretty much the opposite of me: she’s super serious and meticulous, while I’m more laid back and enjoy goofing around. Anyway, we were supposed to be working on an experiment that's crucial for our thesis this week. She warned me about how important it was but you know me, I just wasn’t feeling it. And let me tell you, nothing makes me less focused than a deadline staring me right in the face. So I decide to lighten things up and convince her to take a quick break with a silly game we came up with. We had this little box of candy from our last group meeting, and instead of working on the experiment like responsible researchers should, I suggested that whoever could solve a puzzle faster got all the candy. Big mistake. She didn’t say anything at first, but I could see her eyes narrowing as she reluctantly agreed to my silly game. We set up the puzzle, and just when we were about to start, a loud ding from my phone alerts me to a friend's funny meme that I absolutely had to check out right away. It took maybe three seconds, tops, but by the time I was back at the lab bench, she’s looking at me with daggers in her eyes. I tried to brush it off and get back on task, but there’s no denying the tension between us. And just like that, our entire afternoon is wasted, not a single data point collected. The funny thing is, after all of this drama over candy and distractions, we still have more time in the lab before next week's deadline. But something in her eyes tells me it isn’t about the experiment anymore, it’s about making sure I don't forget my place. I know it was a petty move to pull, but sometimes the pressure gets overwhelming and you just need a break. Still, that look on her face has been haunting me ever since. She might not have said anything out loud, but she made her feelings clear without any words at all. It's funny how one little moment can change everything.
