I Didn't Tell The Truth About My Art Supplies

So there was this one time when I was in an art competition at the local community center. It's not like it's a big deal, but you know how artists can get pretty competitive sometimes? Well, my friend Lisa and I were both signed up for this showcase of student work. I had been working on a piece that involved using some special watercolors that I had ordered from Europe because they are the only ones that give me the exact shade of blue I wanted. They cost an arm and a leg, really more than I could afford right then. The day before the competition, my dog dug through my studio bag while I was out getting groceries and managed to spill all of those fancy watercolors everywhere. It's not like they were ruined exactly - just messy and scattered around with bits of dried paint stuck to the palette, which made them look pretty unprofessional if you saw it that way. But Lisa's work looked amazing, so I didn't want her to know how worried I was about my own piece being subpar. And as an artist, there is nothing worse than showing up at a competition and not having all your supplies together perfectly like everyone else expects you to have them! So instead of admitting the truth, I told everyone that I had misplaced my special watercolors - which wasn't entirely true but was less embarrassing somehow? - and I ended up borrowing some generic stuff from the community center's art room. The colors weren't quite right and I could feel my hand shaking as I tried to cover it up. Afterwards, Lisa came up to me all friendly-like asking if everything went well with my project. Of course, she said her piece was just going through some last minute tweaks too but seeing those gorgeous blues in the corner of the room made me even more nervous about how mine would look beside hers! Now I'm sitting here wondering if anyone noticed what a white lie that was on my part and if they think less of me for it. It's funny how much trouble over something so silly, you know? Just one moment where I wasn't being totally honest with myself or others. So there goes my confession about lying to avoid embarrassment in front of the community art scene, hoping someone out there feels like they're not alone when we all sometimes put up a facade.
