My White Lie About the Dentist...

So yesterday was my oldest kid's dental appointment. You know how it is when you have young kids, there's always something to prep them for before a doctor visit. I told him that we're going on an adventure and he'll get to be a superhero by being brave, and that they might give him a tiny toy if he does well... Well, turns out the dentist doesn't actually do that anymore! They have these new rules about not giving out small toys for hygiene reasons or something. So after the appointment, my son was looking at me with this disappointed face like I had lied to Santa Claus himself.... It felt terrible and kind of silly all at once. He's such a little boy still... Maybe next time we'll just go get ice cream instead!
