i let my class go wild last friday

so this past friday was like a real weird day for me. i had just gotten over being super sick and it was one of those days where everything is off, you know? the weather was gloomy and it felt kinda dark in the classroom even with all the windows open. plus, there were these two new kids in class who seemed to be getting bullied by a couple of my older students. i could see them at their desks, looking down and not talking much, while everyone else was just chattering away like they usually do. anyway, normally i have this super strict schedule for the day, but it felt so weird that i decided to scrap all plans and let the class just run free. my thought was maybe if we relaxed a bit, things would feel more normal again. plus, these new kids weren't really getting along with anyone, and i hoped giving them some freedom might help. so i told everyone they could do anything that day except be mean to others or break stuff. it felt good telling them, but looking back, maybe i was being too lenient? there were definitely a few moments where things got out of hand, like when one group started playing tag in the classroom and almost knocked over some supplies. another time, two kids had a mini food fight with raisins. but overall, it was actually kinda nice just observing instead of constantly directing them all day long. by lunchtime, even those new students were laughing and chatting more freely than usual. after school, i felt so exhausted but oddly satisfied too, like maybe giving in to the chaos helped us all reset somehow. now that everything is calm though, i wonder if letting them run wild was really fair or just a momentary lapse? would love some thoughts, no judgment needed.
