I Can't Help But Laugh When Caring For Patients In Pain

I'm a nurse, and I'll admit it's something that makes me feel uncomfortable but strangely entertained, sometimes when patients are in agony or complaining about their situation, I find myself stifling laughter. It's not because I don’t empathize with them; rather, there’s an odd humor to human drama and the absurdity of life. My colleagues think I'm insensitive for this reaction, but I can't seem to stop it. Does anyone else feel the same? Am I just a bizarre unicorn in the nursing community?
