Why Did I Do That? ...

So there's this girl at work, let's call her Jane. We've worked together for a while now and she’s always been friendly enough but never really close friends. Last week we had a team-building event... It was pretty awkward, with everyone trying to force these silly ice-breaker games on us. I ended up paired with Jane during one of them. The game involved sharing embarrassing stories from our past... I mean, what teenager doesn't have some cringeworthy moment to share? But as the story came out, it felt like a major blunder. I shared this tale about how in middle school, I had a huge crush on my math teacher and wrote him fan letters... It was pretty obvious that Jane found it hilarious but also thought I was out of my mind or something. She kind of laughed at me for being so immature. And then everyone else just looked uncomfortable... The next day at work, things felt different between us. Maybe they noticed the vibe change too? I feel like an idiot now thinking about it all and wondering why I would air such a personal story to someone who clearly didn't appreciate it or care... Why did I think that was a good idea?
