Shift After Shift Without Breaks

So, you know how sometimes at work it feels like everything is against you? Well, lately my shifts have been getting really rough. Like, one time I worked for almost 8 hours straight without a break because the manager said he needed everyone to cover an unexpected rush of customers. And honestly, by the end, I felt so beat down that all I wanted was a nap in the supply closet. But hey, who am I kidding? That's not exactly professional behavior, is it? So instead, I just stared at my shoes and pretended everything was fine. It's funny how much of our time we spend pretending, you know? And then when you finally have a moment to yourself, all these weird thoughts start swirling around in your head about what you want out of life beyond this job that feels like it's sucking the life right out of you. Sometimes I wonder if people on the outside even understand how exhausting it is to be at the bottom of the retail chain, trying to smile and serve with every fiber of your being while the rest of the world keeps spinning and moving forward without a second thought for the person holding down their coffee in the morning or finding that last pair of shoes. I guess today was just one of those days where pretending seemed easier than dealing with reality.
