Just Laughing at Myself...

So yesterday I was on shift and had to go check up on this patient who kept pressing the nurse call button. They were just really bored and wanted company, so I ended up sitting with them for like an hour... talking about nothing important but they seemed so much happier. When I got back to the desk everyone gave me weird looks because I should have been busy with other stuff... but honestly, it felt good to make someone smile in this job where most of the time we're running around stressed out. So now I'm sitting here wondering if I did something wrong by just being a human for an hour instead of following the protocol exactly... What's more important, rules or people?...
