Coding During Meetings Is My Thing Now

I've been working at this tech company for a couple of years now. I started off as an intern and got promoted to my current position as a software engineer. The job is challenging, but also rewarding when you see your work make a difference in people's lives through the applications we develop. However, there’s one habit I’ve picked up that I’m not too proud of. During meetings where the topic isn’t directly related to my project or when the discussion gets repetitive, I find myself slipping into coding mode. Yes, you heard it right, I actually write code during these meetings. It's kind of a survival skill for me in this new normal. It’s funny because I know others probably notice my screen activity and wonder what I’m up to, but they don’t seem too bothered by it as long as I contribute when needed. At the end of the day, we’re all here to get things done, and if coding during meetings helps me stay productive without disrupting anything else, why not? Of course, there are days where the meeting content is highly relevant, and then I’m fully engaged and take notes like a good team member. So, here’s my confession: when we gather for yet another update or brainstorming session that doesn’t pertain to what I'm currently working on, you’ll often find me sneaking in some coding work. It keeps me sharp and ensures my skills don't get rusty.
