Oops at Work

I started my new job last week and everything seemed so exciting but now I feel like a total failure. On Monday, we had this big meeting about our new project and the boss gave us all these important files to keep safe. Well, yesterday, right after lunch when I was heading back from the break room with my coffee, I accidentally dropped those files in the trash can. My heart sank because it felt like everyone’s work was ruined. I tried not to look panicked but then my coworker saw me and asked what happened. By then, I had pulled everything out of the bin, but I’m pretty sure my face gave away how mortified I am. The funny thing is, now every time I go for coffee, I see that trash can and imagine all those papers looking back at me. It’s like they’re judging me or something. Now, whenever someone asks if I’ve seen any files lying around, I get this knot in my stomach. How do you come back from something like that? Am I forever the clumsy new employee who screws up big projects?
