Roommate Drama

So here's my story. First day on campus, met my roommate, Alex, at our dorm room. We both seemed chill enough, shared some small talk and settled in for the night. Over the next few weeks, things started to get a bit annoying. Alex leaves clothes all over the place. I always pick them up and put them away neatly because it makes me feel like our space is clean and cozy. But one day, Alex comes back with a new bag of laundry and dumps everything on the floor in front of my bed without even glancing at me. This is when I decided to take action. I wrote up a roommate agreement with basic guidelines for tidiness and respect, no yelling about it or anything, just put it out there as a mutual understanding. Alex agreed initially, said they would do better. For the first week, things improved. They started putting clothes in laundry baskets and even folded some of their stuff. But after that first week, old habits kicked back in big time. I had another conversation with Alex, tried to be supportive but also firm about our agreement. Again, agreed initially, but didn't stick for long. Now, we have a constant cycle of cleaning up and mess building back up. Every day is a battle to keep the room tidy. Sometimes I wonder if my efforts are worth it or if I should just give up and let Alex live however they want. This roommate situation has become more stressful than college classes ever will be.
