i totally gave my class an extra day off

so like there was this big assembly i had to go to at school and the kids were supposed to have a test that day. but i dont feel good about taking time away from their learning for me to attend something grownups need to deal with, you know? so i thought, why not just move everything up a day? its not like they noticed or anything, it was such an easy switch and my principal is never really checking our lesson plans anyway. but then the next week there was this surprise inspection, totally unannounced, and the inspector asked about that weird extra day off on their schedule. i had to do a lot of talking and explaining but honestly i still dont think they believed me. now everyone thinks im some kind of irresponsible teacher who cant even plan a test. honestly though, how many sick days have you taken recently? probably way more than an extra test prep day would be worth right? so am i the asshole here for giving them that unexpected break? should i just own up and say it was totally planned? let me know what u guys think.
