I Lie About Finishing My Reading Assignments

So here’s the thing. I’m a grad student, and let me tell you, there are days when all you want to do is binge-watch The Office for the millionth time instead of plowing through dense academic texts no one but your professors care about. And that’s exactly what happens sometimes, even though I know better. So yeah, every once in a while I stretch the truth a bit with my professor. Like when they ask if I’ve read all the material, and really, I’ve only skimmed half of it because, let's be honest, the other half is mind-numbingly boring and feels like someone else wrote it anyway. But here’s why this isn’t totally awful: sometimes, just having that conversation with my professor about what I did read or didn't find interesting helps me gain a new perspective on things. And hey, maybe next time they’ll assign something more engaging! So yeah, guilty as charged. But also, if you know what I mean and you nod your head, then we’re in this together.
