First Day Blues

My first day at this job felt like a movie scene but not one of those happy ones where everyone is excited and waving. I walked in late because I got so lost looking for the place, and to make it worse, my coffee spilled all over me before anyone even said hi. My boss was nice though; she just gave me a funny look and handed me a mop. I spent most of my day shadowing another employee while trying not to stare at the clock or the door waiting for lunchtime. I made some small talk, but everyone else seemed so busy and focused on their work that I felt like an intruder in this office full of grown-ups who know what they're doing. So here's my question: How did you deal with feeling out of place on your first day at a new job? Did anyone ever say something to make you feel better?
