The Great Office Prank Gone Wrong

I'll admit it, I've always been the one to initiate harmless pranks at work. It's a way for me to maintain some sense of humor and lighten up the dull routine, but I never imagined what would happen when I pulled off my biggest stunt yet. It all started last month when we got our first virtual reality headsets for team-building exercises. As someone who's been with the company since its early days, it was a big deal for me to see such cutting-edge technology come into play. But being the seasoned veteran that I am, I thought why not put them to good use in a way nobody expected? I decided to trick my boss, Linda, by setting up her virtual reality headset with an interactive scenario that would make it seem like she was trapped in a haunted house. It's all part of pranks, right? No harm, no foul. I carefully set the scene and waited for the perfect moment. Linda finally put on the headset during our team lunch break. The idea was to have her laugh at how silly everything looked. However, after about ten minutes, something went terribly wrong. Linda wasn't laughing; she was terrified out of her mind. She pulled off the headset and burst into tears, saying she had a panic attack. The whole office saw this happen and it quickly spread that I set up an elaborate joke for my boss to experience sheer terror. Needless to say, no one found it funny, not even me after seeing Linda's reaction. It was a clear overstep in professionalism, despite my intentions of just having fun. Since then, the atmosphere at work has been tense, and everyone looks at me with suspicion. I've apologized multiple times and tried explaining that I didn't mean any real harm, but the damage is done. Sometimes, being a veteran doesn't mean you have all the answers.
