My Kids' Secret Code Words
Anonymous Smitten Scoundrel #774 · General
So I was in the kitchen this morning and overheard my kids talking about their weekend plans. Now, these days they always use some weird code words that sound like gibberish to me but apparently mean something super important. Today it was 'banana bread surprise.' And as soon as I heard those words, I felt like a spy trying to crack the code of teenagehood! It's funny because when my friends and I talk about our own childhood memories, we don't remember using secret codes with each other. But kids these days, they're so tech-savvy and always seem to have some new way of keeping things from us adults. Anyway, back to the banana bread surprise bit. Now, my son loves making sweet treats in his free time, a small rebellion against all the healthy snacks I try to push on him. So is it possible that 'banana bread' actually means a sweet treat? And what's the 'surprise'? Could there be a surprise guest coming over or some other fun event hiding behind this code? Or maybe they just baked something extra delicious for their friends. I could spy on them more, but I'm not sure if it would do any good. They know how to slip things by me. For now, all I can do is wait and watch as my little banana bread spies plan their secret missions in the kitchen.
