Why Did I Give Grandma's Garden Gnome to the Neighbor?

So last week, my grandkids came over and we decided to play a fun game of tag in our backyard. The garden is filled with all sorts of plants and decorations that have become like old friends after years of care. But there was this one gnomish statue right by the path leading up from the sidewalk, it had been a centerpiece since I first started gardening, but I hadn't exactly been thrilled about it for a while now. It's one of those cliché little green men wearing pointy hats and holding a lantern or some other random prop that looks like they've just wandered off into the night from an old fairy tale illustration. Anyway, during this game of tag, we were running around chasing each other when I noticed my grandkids weren't really paying attention to it. They ran right past it as if it wasn't even there. That got me thinking... perhaps my opinion wasn’t so out of place after all? The statue had become a source of annoyance for me over the years, its constant presence making me question why I ever bought it in the first place. As we cooled down with lemonade and cookies inside, I was still mulling this over. And then something unexpected happened: the neighbor's kid came by to see my grandkids, and they all decided to hang out at our front door chatting for a bit before heading home. In that moment, it struck me, what if I gave this gnomish statue to them? They'd be gone in minutes anyway, so maybe it would finally give the garden some much-needed peace? So, when no one was looking, I snuck back outside and lifted up my least favorite companion. I thought about just setting it aside somewhere inconspicuous on their lawn for a while, but ultimately decided to be more generous and left it at their door as if waiting for them. Now that the deed is done, though, I'm starting to question whether this was really such a good idea. Did I overreact about my garden gnome? Could they think badly of me for taking something from my own property without permission? Maybe it's just too late now; either way, here I am trying to understand why exactly I went through with it.
