I Lied About My Age to Try the Kids Menu

Okay, so here’s the thing. I recently went out for dinner with my grandkids and decided to try something new, the kids’ menu. It was a spur of the moment decision fueled by their insistence that the burger sliders were amazing. But there’s a problem: I’m in my 50s, and the place only offers discounts to families where adults order from the full menu. I couldn’t bring myself to spend the extra money just for a smaller portion, so what did I do? I lied about my age and told the server that I was here with a family friend who’s visiting from out of town and that we’re treating them like they were back home having fun at an amusement park with their own kids. It was a clever cover-up if I say so myself, but now I can’t stop thinking: why did I feel like this momentary indulgence was worth bending the truth over? What does it even matter to anyone else what I order? Maybe next time I’ll just embrace my inner child and enjoy the meal without any pretenses.
