Just Another Day of Avoidance

Today was one of those days where I just wanted to avoid everyone and everything. As an only child with supportive but overbearing parents who always want to know what I'm up to, it's hard to find any peace. So when my best friend invited me to a small gathering at their place, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to duck out of family dinner night again. I showed up late and looked exhausted, something they picked up on right away. My friend's roommate was there too, and she gave me that 'what’s going on?' look people always seem to give when I’m acting extra stressed. But no one pushed for details, which is exactly what I needed. We watched some bad TV reruns and ate microwave pizza, the kind that sticks to your hands because it's so messy. When I finally got home, Mom was waiting up and asked me why I looked so tired. I made up something about a late night at work (which isn’t even close to true) and crashed into bed without another word. She didn't push much further that time, but it feels like it’s only a matter of time before the pressure builds again.
