Why I Ditched My Friend's Birthday Party

Today was supposed to be my friend Jamie's birthday party at their house. But honestly? It just felt like too much social pressure. I've been feeling really anxious about fitting in and not standing out lately, especially around Jamie and their group of friends. The thing is, Jamie has this kind of magnetic charisma that makes everyone want to please them and be part of their clique. And while I'm usually pretty good at keeping up with conversations, the thought of spending hours trying to stay on top of all those dynamics felt exhausting. So instead of going to the party, I stayed home and watched a few episodes of my favorite show. It was quiet and relaxing, which is what I needed today. But now that it's over, I'm left wondering if this was really okay. Did I make Jamie feel bad by not showing up? Is everyone thinking about how weird it would be to invite someone to their own party who doesn't show up? I just can't figure out why I always let these social expectations get the better of me, and then run away from them at the same time. Maybe next time I'll try talking to Jamie first if I'm feeling anxious about a gathering, but for now, all I know is that I have some serious thinking to do.
