When I Feared My Kids Would Never Outgrow Their Obsession with Momo Videos

So here's the thing. Last summer, my kids, Max and Lily, basically became obsessed with these Momo videos they found on a messaging app. If you're not familiar, it’s this creepy doll that appears in online chat threads as an admin, encouraging kids to do dangerous stuff. I didn’t want to scare them by outright banning everything but tried setting strict limits, one hour a week max, no more of those dark web apps, and definitely no sharing videos with strangers. Of course, I knew they'd find ways around it eventually. So, late one night when they were sound asleep, I logged into their accounts and posted the most ridiculous memes about Momo being nothing but a guy in a wig from my hometown, you know, the kind of meme that'll make them roll their eyes if they ever see it but too bizarre to be believed. They caught me out the next day when they started asking about all the new posts on our family group chat, but surprisingly didn't seem angry at first. We had a serious conversation and agreed that there'd be no more Momo videos for six months unless they promised to stick to the rules. After two weeks of them complaining every other minute, I gave in and let them have an extra 30 minutes one day. But the thing is, now I'm starting to worry about what else my kids might get into when I'm not around, you know? Am I the asshole for playing online pranks on them or did I just do what any parent would to protect their children?
