I May Have Screwed Up My Lab Group Dynamic

So here's the deal. I'm in grad school and our department is notorious for having these intense lab group dynamics where everyone kind of eats each other alive to get ahead. We've got five people total, including myself, and we're all working on this big project that could make or break our chances at getting those coveted postdoc positions after graduation. Anyway, my friend Sarah has been leading the charge for some time now. She's smart, driven, and everyone looks up to her. I've always admired her work ethic, but lately, it feels like she's trying a bit too hard. It’s almost as if she's making things unnecessarily complicated just to prove how capable she is. Now, here's the thing: last week we had a mandatory lab meeting where one of my peers, let's call him Mike, was supposed to present his progress on the project. Mike has always been reliable and dependable, but he's also been dealing with some personal stuff recently that’s probably affecting his work. Well, during this meeting, Sarah practically took over and started telling everyone what Mike should be doing next. I could see him getting more and more frustrated by her micromanaging style. When it was my turn to contribute, instead of saying something constructive, I said, “Sarah, maybe you should just give Mike the space he needs and let him figure things out for himself.” I thought I was being supportive, but after the meeting ended, Sarah came up to me with this weird look in her eyes. She asked if I thought she was overstepping or something, and honestly, it threw me off guard because that's not how I meant it at all. I reassured her that I didn't think anything bad about her work ethic, but maybe we needed to support Mike more. Now everyone is walking on eggshells around Sarah, and she’s treating us like we're undermining her leadership. This could be a disaster for the group dynamic, especially since there's always competition between lab groups. I feel terrible because I genuinely think things were fine before I opened my mouth in that meeting. So here it is: did I really screw up by calling Sarah out on her behavior during our meeting? Or was I actually being supportive of Mike and the group's health overall?
