My Midnight Snack Habit

I've been working the night shift at this tiny café downtown for over six months now. It's supposed to be a quiet job with lots of time to relax and chat with regulars, but there’s one thing that always throws me off: my midnight snack obsession. Every night around 3 AM, when things start getting really slow and everyone has left except the occasional straggler, I can feel it coming, the urge to dig into the fridge for a giant slice of cheesecake or some leftover pizza. It's like a superpower: somehow, all the leftovers miraculously taste better under the neon lights after midnight. And here’s the embarrassing part, I keep thinking no one notices because they’ve already gone home, but I bet the regulars have seen me sneak into the kitchen more than once with a twinkle in my eye and a stomach growling so loud it sounds like a chorus of hippos. It's hard to admit this out loud even to myself, but there’s something oddly comforting about those late-night snacks when the world is asleep and all you want is something sweet or greasy to keep you company.
