Remote Loneliness

Anonymous Sneaky Busybody #320 · General

Working from home has its perks, I can work in my pajamas, set my own schedule, and avoid that daily commute. But lately, I've been feeling the weight of isolation more than ever. My co-workers are just names on a screen now; we haven't had an in-person meeting in months. The silence of the office is almost deafening. It's strange how much I miss those small interactions, chatting about weekend plans over coffee or laughing at silly jokes in passing. These days, my lunch breaks are spent alone with my thoughts, and I find myself looking out the window, wishing for a friendly face to talk to. Even on Zoom calls, it feels impersonal and distant compared to the real thing. Sometimes, I wonder if this is what everyone else feels too, or if I'm just being overly sentimental about something that’s no longer necessary.
