I Lied About the Coffee Order at Work

So I'm that guy from accounting who's always trying to keep things efficient and organized. You know how it is in a big office - everyone has their little quirks, but when you start noticing patterns, you just want to streamline them to make life easier for everyone. Take our coffee machine. It's one of those fancy ones where you can pre-program orders so they pop up as soon as the button's pressed. Well, I noticed a few people always order the same thing every single day - it's like clockwork. So, last week, I decided to be helpful and programmed their morning coffee for them without asking. I figured, why take an extra minute out of your busy schedule when you can just have your favorite ready-to-go? And wouldn't you know it, everyone seemed happy with their perfectly timed drinks. One of my colleagues even mentioned how great it was that she didn't have to wait in line at all. But then came the moment of truth last Friday morning. Our lovely office manager walked into the kitchen just as I was pressing a button on behalf of another colleague and happened to glance at his usual order pop up on the screen. She gave me this questioning look, like 'what are you doing?' And that's when it hit me - I probably shouldn't have gone behind anyone's back. I tried to brush it off as a joke about how efficient I was being, but inside, I knew there was some truth in her concerned glance. I mean, who does this kind of thing? It was definitely convenient for everyone involved, but now that the secret is out, maybe I've overstepped my bounds a bit. To be honest though, if given the chance again, I might still do it. But then there's the nagging feeling that even small acts like these could end up causing more trouble than they're worth. Still thinking about the best way to go forward - should I confess or keep doing what seemed helpful? What a dilemma for an afternoon coffee break!
