When I Snatched The Last Cookie From My Kids

So there I was, just finishing up a long day at work and all I wanted was to kick my shoes off and relax with some quiet time. But as soon as I walked in the door, my kids came running over demanding snacks and stories. We had that big box of cookies left from their birthday party last week but they've been eating them one by one since then, leaving me with almost none because 'Mama has to eat healthy food' as they keep reminding me every day. So today, I was extra tired and feeling a bit glum. Plus, it's not like anyone else in the house deserves that last cookie more than me after all my hard work and sacrifices. As I passed by the kitchen on my way back to relax in peace, I saw just one chocolate chip left at the bottom of the box. My heart skipped a beat, knowing that this might be my only chance for something sweet today. I went to grab it when they walked into the room and suddenly, it became this intense stare-off. I could see their wheels turning: 'Oh no, she's not going to eat it!'. And then came the plea-filled eyes, the puppy dog pout... but in my head, I just thought 'Nope, been there done that; this one is for Mama.' I ended up eating it while they pouted, which made me feel a little guilty because I knew how much they wanted it. But at the same time, I couldn't help feeling justified, wasn’t their birthday party last week? Weren't those cookies meant to be shared between us all? Maybe this was just my way of making sure everyone got some. Anyway, now here's where it gets tricky: Is it really that bad for a mom to take the last cookie when they've been having them daily? Or am I being unreasonable? And how do you balance indulging yourself with keeping promises and maintaining fairness? Am I just overthinking this or is there something more going on here that I'm missing out on? What would you have done if you were me?
