Barista Battle: When Good Intentions Go Wrong

So here's the dealio. One day, this regular customer comes in with his usual order and starts whining about how late he is for work because we're taking forever to make his drink. I was feeling sympathetic because I know he always orders on his way out of rush hour traffic and needs it within minutes or he'll be late. So instead of ringing him up, I offered to make two coffees, one to go and another to take a break with when they got to work. The coffee guy looked stunned, then thanked me profusely and took off in a hurry. But here's the thing: later that day, he came back all flustered, telling me his boss gave him a stern lecture because he was caught drinking on company time! I felt terrible but couldn't help laughing, who gets scolded for enjoying coffee too much? I mean, really. Do people not see coffee as just a drink anymore? It's like the new beer or something. So here I am, wondering if it’s normal to feel both guilty and amused when you try to be nice but end up causing more trouble than good.
