I Bought Myself A Guitar But I Don't Know How To Play It Yet

Anonymous Cheeky Gossip #606 · General

So, uh, yeah. Last week, I finally decided to take up guitar playing after years of wanting to but never actually getting around to it. You know how sometimes you just think something sounds really cool in your head and then when you do it, it's not as cool? Yeah, that might have been me. So here’s the story... I’ve always had this weird fascination with guitars ever since I was a kid, staring at those posters of my favorite bands on my bedroom wall. My dad used to play back in high school and he left his old guitar sitting around somewhere in storage for years. We tried to get him into teaching me once but it just didn’t stick. He’s been out of the music scene since then. Anyway, I decided enough was enough. Went on the internet, found this shiny new acoustic guitar with a fancy finish. Thought, 'Okay, here goes nothing.' Spent like $300 on something that might as well be in another language to me right now because I can barely get one note out of it without it sounding like my cat clawing furniture. I mean, the first day was okay. Held it up and made some noise, tried following a tutorial online. Got maybe two chords down before it became frustrating, you know? Then last night happened. Tried again late into the evening after everyone else had gone to bed for the quiet time, but instead of making music I ended up accidentally breaking one of its strings because my fingers aren’t used to pressing so hard on the frets yet. I’m not really sure how to fix it or even if I can afford another set. My dad probably wouldn’t be happy knowing his old guitar got messed up. So now, here’s this thing sitting in a corner of my room with its broken string, staring back at me every time I walk past like a reminder that I’m not as cool as I thought I was going to be. I guess it’s just embarrassing to admit you can’t actually play an instrument after putting it on your wall as a badge of honor. But yeah, here we are. Maybe I’ll try again sometime, or maybe I should just stick with appreciating the sound from afar instead of trying to make it myself. Either way, my guitar is patiently waiting for me to figure out what I want to do.
