This Guy Drinks Too Much and Gets in My Business
Anonymous Shifty Gossip #404 · General
So I work at this dive bar that's like the local hangout spot for everyone from college kids to grumpy grandpas. Anyway, there's this one regular guy who’s always around, let’s call him Jack. He drinks a lot but is usually just chatty and harmless. One night, he got really drunk and started talking about how I owe it to him because his grandpa was the owner of the place before me. It felt like he was trying to guilt-trip me into giving him free drinks or something. I had enough after a while and told him pretty firmly that while it’s nice, the bar is now mine to run as I see fit. He got all defensive and started making snarky comments about how I’m not really cut out for this job since I'm young. Well, I was tired of being treated like some kid who couldn't handle responsibility. So, I did something a bit brash: I told him point-blank that he either pays his tab or leaves. He threw down some cash and stormed off, muttering about how times are changing. The next day, when Jack came back, he pretended nothing happened. But after that night, people stopped bringing up the past with me so much. It felt good to draw a line, but I guess I am the asshole for making it so clear. Still, I’m not sorry, there's no room in this bar for those kind of attitudes.
