I Spoke Up for My Salad and My Feelings Too

So I've been working at this place called Leafy Greens for a month now. It's supposed to be all about fresh veggies and sustainability, but turns out it’s just another chain with a green-washing façade. One day last week, I got a delivery of pre-cut salads, those little plastic containers with sad-looking lettuce in them. As an eco-warrior trying to make a difference, this was the ultimate gut-punch. But my boss insisted on selling these salads because they had the best profit margin. I went to him and said something along the lines of, “Hey, man, I really think we should be about ethics here. Let's give people real veggies from local farms.” He just stared at me blankly before saying in a condescending tone, “Well, what do you know? You’re new here, so let’s stick to taking orders and leave the decisions to the professionals.” Feeling like a total loser for standing up about something I truly believe in but being shot down by someone who clearly thinks they're better than me because of my position at work, I did something petty that I'm not really proud of. After he left, I took all those pre-cut salad containers and mixed them into the compost bin with a bit more vigor than necessary, ensuring every single piece was crushed beyond recognition before adding a hefty portion of old coffee grounds on top for good measure. So yeah, it was an act of sabotage born out of feeling belittled and undervalued. Was I the asshole? Probably. But it felt so good to stick it to someone who clearly didn't care about anything but the bottom line. Plus, now we're getting actual local farm deliveries for our salads because he found a supplier offering lower prices on compostable containers. Maybe my little act of defiance helped push him in that direction. I'm not saying it was right or wrong; I’m just owning up to something petty and slightly unethical but also a bit satisfying. Oh, and the boss? He’s still staring at me like I’m crazy when I show up for work every day.
