Proud to be Picky About Music

I'm in my 40s and I've always been proud of my eclectic taste in music. From classic rock to hip-hop, if it has a good beat or tells an interesting story, you'll find me listening to it. But lately, I've noticed that people often assume that because I'm older, I should like certain genres they associate with their parents' generation. Nope! I recently walked into a party where everyone was jamming to '80s soft rock and oldies. Instead of joining in, I pulled out my earbuds and started blasting indie pop. The looks on people's faces were priceless, a mix of shock and curiosity. They thought they had me pegged, but I'm not one for labels or stereotypes. My music choice is mine alone, and I'll continue to enjoy what moves me, no matter how old the crowd thinks I am.
