That One Lie About the Coffee Maker

Anonymous Meddling Gossip #348 · General

Oh man, I still feel bad about this little fib. It’s funny how such a small thing can weigh on you for days afterward. So there was this morning at work where I had to be up and alert for a big presentation that afternoon. But then, oh no, my coffee maker broke right before I left home. Panic set in - what if I couldn’t get my caffeine fix? How would I possibly make it through the day without that sweet, sweet buzz? So, here’s where the lie comes into play. At work, a coworker asked if everything was going well at home. Thinking fast, I told her the coffee maker was working just fine and how much I enjoyed my morning ritual of making my own brew. Truth is, it wasn’t even on - sitting there like an uncooperative piece of machinery. Now, granted, it’s not a huge deal. No one got hurt or anything drastic happened. But for some reason, lying about such a small thing really sticks with me. It felt silly admitting I had no coffee and just grabbing one from the break room. Maybe I’m overthinking this, but it made me realize how sometimes we lie to protect our image rather than being honest about life’s little inconveniences. A bit sad that something so trivial could have such a hold on my conscience.
