I Spilled Soda On My Best Friend's New Phone...And I'm Still Guilty About It Years Later

So this happened back in tenth grade. We were hanging out at my place, just the two of us, and it was one of those perfect days, sunshine streaming through the windows, good music on in the background, chips and soda nearby. My best friend had her brand-new phone with her that day too, like a shiny new toy she couldn’t wait to show off. We were chatting about our upcoming exams when I reached for my can of soda without thinking twice, just an automatic reflex, you know? But somehow, instead of grabbing my own drink, my hand went straight into hers. Before either of us could react properly, the soda had spilled all over her phone's screen and the case. I couldn’t even begin to apologize fast enough; I felt awful in that moment. My friend was initially taken aback but then she just laughed it off and said something like 'It happens.' She texted a few people on the damaged phone, checked if anything worked, and tried her luck with some napkins before leaving to go home. I remember walking her out feeling terrible, thinking about how expensive that phone must have been. Over the years, we both moved on from high school and got into different colleges. We kept in touch but never really talked much about that incident again, probably because it’s just one of those things you try not to bring up often after a while. But now, all these years later, I still can’t shake off the guilt. Every time she gets a new gadget or when my phone needs replacing, there's this lingering worry in the back of my mind about whether she’s ever thought of me ruining her precious device. It’s such an old story by now, and surely it shouldn’t affect us so much anymore. But here I am, still wondering, do you think it's fair to still feel guilty over something that happened years ago? Or should I just let it go and move on from this?
