awkward moment

so i was at this party and ran into an old crush, we used to be close but things ended weirdly years ago. anyway, i tried being chill about it but then when everyone started talking about movies, i blurted out 'i think you're my soulmate in the matrix' which is super cheesy and made no sense at all. why do i always say such dumb stuff? what should i have said instead?
