My Big Mistake at Work

So I started this new job as an intern at the big corporate office downtown. It’s my dream gig, everyone says it’s a foot in the door, and they’re not kidding! There’s so much to learn here, and I’m thrilled to be part of it all. The first day was amazing; everything was shiny, and I met lots of friendly faces who offered advice about how to navigate this place. My supervisor is super nice but also strict on rules, which seemed fair enough. Yesterday was my third day, and we had a big team meeting where they explained the company’s confidentiality policy in detail, you know, no sharing inside info or customer data outside the office, etc. I nodded along like a pro because it’s pretty important stuff. Anyway, after the meeting, I went to get lunch at my favorite local café. This cute guy works there who always says hi and makes small talk while he rings up orders. He’s super friendly but also kinda mysterious; no one really knows much about him, which adds a bit of allure. So there I am getting a chicken sandwich and some coffee when he comes over to me with an apologetic smile. ‘I’m so sorry,’ he says. ‘I had a customer come in earlier, looking for some company info or something, I wasn’t sure if they were asking about your place here. Can you tell me anything about it? He was really insistent but seemed shady to me.’ Now, the real kicker: my first instinct was just to brush him off and say nothing because of that big meeting we had. But then he kept staring at me with these intense eyes, so I blurted out ‘Not sure what you’re talking about, sorry!’ And I gave a vague wave towards the street like maybe they were asking for directions or something. I know, it was probably unprofessional of me to give that kind of answer. But hey, the policy’s pretty strict, right? The thought crossed my mind that this guy could have been fishing for information and I shouldn’t have given anything away! After he left, I felt so guilty. Maybe they’ll find out somehow. Anyway, it feels like such a big deal but also kind of ridiculous at the same time. So here’s me, stuck between being paranoid about getting in trouble or just telling him to mind his own business next time he comes into the café. I’m probably overthinking it all too much! What am I supposed to do now? Am I going to get fired for this small slip-up?
