When My Teen's Room Became A Black Hole

So here’s the deal. I swear my kid’s room has turned into some sort of black hole where stuff disappears and never comes back out again. I tried to do a little spring cleaning last weekend, and let me tell you, it was like digging through a landfill that had somehow been left unattended for years. There were clothes hanging off chairs, shoes in piles by the door, and what looked suspiciously like a snack buried under mounds of textbooks and notebooks. I couldn’t help myself; I sort of… well, more than sort of, let’s be honest… started rifling through stuff to see if there was any hope of reclaiming some space. And then it hit me, why does my kid need 17 pairs of jeans? Does she even remember what they all look like or where the holes are? It’s insane. Anyway, I ended up hauling a bunch of stuff out and feeling pretty good about it for a minute. Then came the backlash from the black hole itself, my daughter started asking questions that made me feel like I was a total ogre. She wanted her jeans back because apparently each pair is essential to a different outfit theme. Outfit themes! Can you believe it? So here’s my question: Am I crazy for trying to do some basic cleaning in there, or does this just seem par for the course as a parent? Is it normal that I feel like I’m on a mission from God every time I step foot into that room? Should I just leave everything alone and hope she cleans up herself sometime soon, which is obviously unlikely? What’s your take? Let me know.
