When My Artistic Integrity Failed Me...

So here's this... Last month, I was commissioned to do a portrait for the local coffee shop. I mean, who wouldn't want that, right? It’s not like it’s going against my principles or anything... But here comes the kicker: they asked me to make their dog look like an angelic puppy with big, sparkly eyes and fluffy fur clouds around its head. Sure, I could do that... but I’m more of a gritty realism kind of artist. The last thing I want is to be known as the go-to person for airbrushed dog portraits. So there we are... This morning, I finally bit the bullet and finished it. It's like something you'd see in a fairytale illustration, not my usual street art vibe. But here’s what gets me... It looked good. Too good maybe? People actually said they liked it, liked it way more than anything else I’ve ever made. And now what? Am I supposed to start turning out cutesy doggies all the time? Or should I stick to my guns and keep doing dark, brooding pieces about urban decay? It’s like, which path am I on here... Selling out for a bit of easy cash or staying true to myself and potentially losing out on future commissions? Ugh... Life is so complicated when you have principles...
