I Broke My Mom's Phone

So, I'm pretty sure I broke my mom's phone last week. She was going on a business trip and asked me to check her calendar for some important meetings, but then I accidentally dropped it down the laundry chute while trying to text her back. It made this sickening crunch sound and now it’s not turning on at all. Mom just got that one as a birthday present last month too... I feel so guilty about it and really don't know how to come clean without sounding like a complete klutz. Any advice or is this just one of those things you deal with somehow? 🙃
