Pouring My Heart Out in a Drink, Literally
Anonymous Smitten Schemer #296 · General
So there I was at the bar tonight, mixing drinks like it's my job (which, well, technically it is). And one of our regulars comes in and starts complaining about how their spouse just left them for someone younger. The guy looks ready to cry into his beer, so I whip up what I call a 'Soothe the Suffering' cocktail. I mix everything together, orange juice, vodka, ginger ale, a bit of cinnamon schnapps, and pour it in front of him with a sympathetic, 'Here you go, buddy.' He takes a sip and looks at me like he's seen a ghost. Turns out he’s allergic to cinnamon schnapps but was too embarrassed to tell me. I felt like the worst bartender on the planet for a second until he started laughing and said it actually made him feel better just because of how ridiculous it is now. So, am I just being overly sensitive here or should I really feel bad about this? Or maybe I’m the only one who would even think to make a drink in such a situation, am I too much?
