Student Detention for No Reason

Last Friday, I detained one of my top students, Alex, after class for being late. But here's the thing, it was a misfire on my part. He wasn't even five minutes tardy; it was more like thirty seconds. The moment he entered, all eyes were on him and I felt the pressure to maintain authority. So I overreacted and pulled him out for detention. When his parents called later that day, I had to admit my mistake and apologize. It was a tough admission of error but honesty is better than trying to save face.
