The Painting That Never Was

I started this painting weeks ago, but it's still blank. I told everyone I was making great progress and that they should come see the masterpiece in my studio. Now people are dropping by expecting something to marvel at. I keep adding tiny, unnoticeable details every day hoping no one will realize how slow I'm moving. It feels like a big lie, but it's also kind of funny watching everyone squint at blank space and nod like they understand art. Sometimes I wish I could just be honest and say 'I haven't started,' but my ego won't let me.
