Forgot My Birthday

You know that feeling when you realize it's your birthday but you've been so busy with work or just life in general that you totally forgot about the whole thing? Yeah, I had one of those moments today. I was scrolling through my phone and saw a post from this friend saying Happy Birthday to another person. And then it hit me: oh right, it's mine too! But instead of feeling excited, I kind of felt embarrassed for having forgotten in the first place. So what did I do? Well, I sent that same friend a quick message saying 'Hey, thanks for remembering X's birthday!' and hoped no one would ask me if my birthday had already passed. It was silly to feel guilty about forgetting my own birthday, but there it is, sometimes you just want someone else to remember the little things. Anyway, I ended up mentioning in a group chat later that 'it’s been a while since anyone wished me happy birthday' and hoped no one would catch onto the fact that I was talking about today. Guess what though? It was totally pointless because my best friend caught on almost instantly. But still, at least now everyone knows to send their wishes my way next year! And you know what’s even funnier? Now I have a weird mix of pride for pulling off this little lie but also feeling stupid for thinking it would actually work in the first place. Gotta love these moments where we try to hide something that’s not really worth hiding, right?
