...It Wasn't Meant To Be...

So last night at the bar, I was pouring drinks for this couple who seemed to be on their first date. They were both really nervous and kept looking around like they didn’t know what to do with themselves. After a few minutes, the guy ordered another drink and suggested they take it outside. It looked like he was trying to impress her, but she just smiled politely and said no thanks... I ended up getting more busy later on, so I forgot about them until closing time when I noticed that same couple still sitting at their table. They weren't talking much anymore... He was staring at his drink and she had her elbows propped up on the counter with her face in her hands... As I cleaned up their glasses and asked if they needed anything else, the guy looked up at me and said he just wanted to order one last thing before we closed. And that's when things got really weird because he ordered a separate drink for his date but handed it to me instead of her and walked out without even saying goodbye... She was left there by herself... I didn’t know what to do at first, then I just went over and sat down next to her. Told her she could stay if she wanted to and we talked a bit until closing time came around anyway. It’s funny how you can be pouring drinks all night long but sometimes the biggest moments slip right through your fingers like water...
